LINDEMAN, Elizabeth "Betty"

(Maiden Name: Van Valkenburgh)

Guest Book "Your Mother, Betty, was a delightful woman. Sharon..." Elizabeth "Betty" Lindeman died June 12 at the age of 88. Her hearing loss and recent heart problems had subtracted very little from her wit, humor, friendliness, and generosity. She was a safe and reliable driver who decided on her own last spring to quit, rather than risk ever causing injury to others. Betty was born May 28, 1924 in Mount Hope, NJ, youngest of four children of Paula L. Haire and Robert Ray VanValkenburgh. Attending Lower Marion schools in Ardmore PA, she graduated from LMHS in 1942. Following her sister to Colorado College, she earned a 1946 BA, having joined the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the science honorary Delta Epsilon. Her 1948 marriage to George Lindeman begot Ted, Paula, Carl, and Bill, who attended District 11 and District 20 schools. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brothers Robert and Norman. She is survived by her children, six grandchildren, and her sister Paula. Betty was active in three medical auxiliaries, YWCA, Women's Educational Society (President, life member), District 20 School Board, Alzheimer's Steering Committee, Senior League, Pioneers Museum Shop Board, and PEO chapter CE, as well as flute and vocal choirs, committees, and study groups of First Congregational Church. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 30, 10:00 am at First Congregational. Those moved to make memorial donations are encouraged to consider PEO chapter CE, Colorado College, or Pikes Peak Hospice. . Published in The Gazette from June 24 to June 26, 2012
