Marian Jeanette (McMahen) Gillis, 73, died at Juniper Village in Lamar on June 2, 2012. Jeanette was born Sept. 4, 1938, in Amarillo, Texas, to H.L. McMahen and Alma Lee (Woodall) McMahen. She married Lee Elwood Gillis on June 3, 1956. She was preceded in death by her father in 1984 and her mother in 2005. Survivors include her husband, Elwood; two daughters, Jayme (Jim) Greenfield of Buena Vista, and Sharon (Lance) Wilson of Wiley; five grandchildren, Logan (Tiffany) Greenfield, Lacee (Zak) Appel, Larson Greenfield and fiancé Kelsi Boucher, Taylor Wilson and Blake Wilson; a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Appel; sister, Marty Bain of Stratford Texas; brother-in-law, Dan (Melanie) Gillis of Polk City, Fla.; sister-in-law June (George) Bingham of Dallas, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jeanette was very active in her church, having taught Sunday school for 13 years and served on the Board of Christian Education. She was a set mother for the Lamar Dudes and Dames for many years. She was a great supporter of the Republican Party. Jeanette took pride in her family as a stay-at-home mom. She supported her daughters in all their endeavors and her husband in his business and political careers. Many called her a loyal friend. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Celebration of life services will be Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Wiley Community Church with Pastor Mike Schneider and Ian Blacker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar.
