Robert “Bob” William Veazey, 91, Salida, died June 13, 2012, in Salida.
He was born Aug. 6, 1920, in New Wilmington, Pa., to James and Alma Veazey. He grew up in Newton, Kan. Mr. Veazey began attending Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) in 1938 on a track scholarship and pursued a degree in engineering.
He married his college sweetheart, Lainada, in 1941. They had four children.
Mr. Veazey was a plastics industry entrepreneur and founded Lustercraft Plastics in Wichita, Kan., in 1945.
In 1986, the couple retired to Salida, where he originated his retirement motto, “If it isn’t fun, I’m not doing it.”
Mr. Veazey was an active inventor and his hobbies included cycling, traveling, boat building and woodworking.
He and Lainada were married 51 years until her death in 1992. In 1994, he married Patricia Ten Eyck in Salida. They enjoyed traveling and the company of their dog, Kisha.
Mr. Veazey was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and son Robert. Survivors include his wife Patricia; children Ruth Ann, Mark and Linda; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were June 16, 2012, at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida. Online condolences may be offered at lewisandglenn.com.
