Josephine (Veltri) Aluise, 91, Salida, died June 17, 2012. She was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Hoehne to Guiseppi “Joseph” and Anna Marie (Guadagnoli) Veltri of Grimaldi, Italy, who immigrated to the Trinidad area where they raised 10 children. She grew up on a ranch in Hoehne and had one half-brother, four brothers and four sisters.
In 1951 she moved to Salida when she married Fred Aluise.
Mrs. Aluise worked at Donahue’s Jewelry and Flory’s Shoe Store, then attended beauty school in Denver.
She worked at Helen’s Beauty Shop and later opened Jo’s Beauty Shop, working for herself until age 85, when she retired due to failing eyesight.
Mrs. Aluise was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Phillip, Flory (Alice), Tony (Annie) and Fred (Gloria); sisters, Sara (Mike Sacco), Emma Veltri, Mary Veltri and Eleanor (Ralph Oss).
Survivors include her brother Dr. Victor Angelo (Mary Lou) Veltri and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m., June 22, 2012, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.
