David Lawrence
David Lawrence Branson of Twin Lakes died on Jan. 28. He was 77 years old.
He was born in Wichita, Kan., on Aug. 26, 1934, to Leslie and Zetta Branson, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended the University of Kansas and worked as a draftman for Shell Oil Company starting at the age of 17.
He married the love of his life, Darlene Joyce DeWine, on May 30, 1953, in Wichita. The couple created many adventures together and lived in many different places, including Oklahoma City, Okla., Golden, Midland, Texas, and Conroe, Texas, where Branson served as an elder at Frazier Street Church of Christ.
They raised three children, Vicky, David and Van. He retired from Shell and moved to Twin Lakes in 1986. He loved the mountains, birds and wildlife, but he was especially fond of his dogs. He served as a deacon for Mountain View Church of Christ.
Branson was preceded in death by his son, Van Leslie; daughter-in-law, Wendy Branson; and grandson, Andy. The legacy he leaves behind includes his wife; daughter, Vicky (Marty) Chamberlin; son David (Jill) Branson; grandchildren Brian Chamberlin of Garland, Texas, Matt (Mary) Chamberlin of Ft. Worth, Texas, Amy (Xantheus) Lawrence of Weatherford, Texas, and Carrie (Adam) Tungate, Sarah (Carl) Kline, David Colin Branson and Allan (Micah) Branson, all of Lubbock, Texas; along with 12 great-grandchildren.
It is said Branson will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Mountain View Church of Christ in Buena Vista. Inurnment will be private. Bailey-Kent Funeral Home of Leadville assisted the family with arrangements.
