WERCKMAN, Karen

(Maiden Name: Frazee)

Karen Werckman, 73, died in an Orlando hospital Saturday, Jan. 28, from a stroke. She was born Karen Frazee, daughter of Mary Catherine and Otho Frazee, on Sept. 3, 1938, near Arcanum, Ohio. She graduated from Arcanum High School in 1956, and went to work for the government at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She married Roger A. Werckman in 1961. They started their family in Dayton, but after their third child was born, they moved to Muncie, Ind., where they raised five boys and were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. After the boys grew up, she began working as a legal secretary for various attorneys and the county courts. In 1994, the couple retired to Sweetwater in Haines City, Fla., where they resided the rest of her life. Werckman loved to read, do newspaper Jumbles, lead water aerobics, cook for her family and socialize with her friends. She will be remembered by her family for her beautiful smile, eagerness to cuddle with grandchildren, affectionate nature, and special recipes such as her holiday coffee cakes, buckeyes and her cheesecake, often requested by family members for birthdays and other special occasions. She was said to be a great friend, and remained close to many Muncie friends after moving to Florida, while becoming part of a close community of friends in her Florida neighborhood. Werckman is survived by her husband of more than 50 years; her five sons, Tony (Carol) of Leadville; Greg of Orinda, Calif.; Ted (Jessica) of Boca Raton, Fla.; Jeff of Muncie, Ind., and Mike (Karla) of Medina, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and her brother John (Susie) Frazee of Manhattan Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Catherine Frazee Campbell, just last year. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1265 Robinson Dr., Haines City, Fla., officiated by Fr. Robert Mitchell and assisted by Deacon Tony Werckman, followed by a gathering at the Knights of Columbus hall, 433 West Florida Ave. 2012
