Helen Marie Flora, 87, peacefully passed away on Feb. 6, at home in Penngrove, Calif., surrounded by her family.
She was born in Leadville on Dec. 3, 1924, to Joseph and Johanna (Michlich) Clune. Johanna Clune had come to Leadville in 1911 and had been born in Ambrusu, Yugoslavia, Oct. 2, 1891.
Flora’s grandparents were Marjete Kante Miklic and John Miklic. Flora had nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by brother Frank Clune of Leadville, and sister Josephine Clune, of Colorado; daughters Patricia Flora and Nancy Flora; and sons Thomas Flora and Robert (Debbie) Flora.
She was a proud grandma to Robert Brodie, Shannon Brodie, Chad Flora, Lisa Flora, Connie Flora, Michelle Ippoliti, Robert Flora II, David Flora, Scott Flora, Kaileen Flora and Keisia Flora; and great-grandmother to Amber Brodie, Isabella Earl, Jackson Earl, Tyler Flora, Travis Johnson, Jeffrey Flora, Ariaana Flora, Josh Batch and Ethan Batch. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
She moved to Penngrove, Calif., around 1970. As a teacher’s aide, she taught many generations of students over her 25 years at Penngrove Elementary School, including some of her grandchildren.
Flora’s youngest son Michael preceded her in death.
The family home in Penngrove brought the family together at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter Sunday, many birthdays and through good times and tough times.
Flora is said to have loved her family and these gatherings. She also loved reading, gardening, cooking, crocheting and watching TV. She taught all her children to pray to God every night before going to bed. She would grab them by the hand and always march them right to the front row in church on Sundays.
Her family said Flora will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., at Eggen & Lance Chapel, 1540 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, Calif.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma.
