Veronica Eva Martinez, 64, of Leadville, passed away Thursday, March 22, in Lakewood of cancer.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1947, to Beasaido and Clorinda (Pacheco) Flores in Wagon Mound, N.M. She married Louis A. Martinez in Leadville.
She spent her most recent years as the executive housekeeper in Martha Head’s residence in Vail. Following this, she also cared for children. She was said to be very supportive of her grandchildren’s activities, loved pedicures and manicures, trips to the local casinos, going to Mt. Princeton and Glenwood Springs, garage saleing, antique hunting and catalog shopping. She was an enthusiastic football fan and outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, getting wood and camping were a true joy for her.
Martinez is survived by her boyfriend of 22 years, Michael Sterkle of Leadville; daughters Judy (Bryan) Gonzales of Leadville, Joann Martinez of Silverthorne, Jessica (Christopher) Sanchez of Westminster and Charlene Martinez of Leadville; grandchildren Nathan Garcia of Leadville, Mark Garcia of Denver, Joshua Martinez of Leadville, Caylyn Gonzales of Leadville, Angelina Martinez of Silverthorne, Destiny Martinez of Silverthorne, Mya Sanchez of Westminster and Isaiah Sanchez of Westminster; great grandchildren Ezekial Garcia, and Gianna and Aliyah Martinez. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis.
A Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 30, at Annunciation Catholic Church with The Reverend Father Jesse Perez as celebrant. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Leadville, with a reception to follow at the Mining Hall of Fame in Leadville.
