Kristina L. (Mallette) Garcia, 44, lifelong resident of Leadville, passed away in Denver on Tuesday, April 24. She was born on Nov. 8, 1967, to Jon and Barbara Mallette in Denver. She married Joshua D. Garcia on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, in Georgetown. Kristina Garcia earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of Denver. Her professional life included activities director at a retirement community, pharmaceutical-sales representative and recently, assistant at the Leadville Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of the Leadville Chapter of P.E.O. She loved gardening, beading, taking care of animals, laughing and spending time with her family. Garcia was said to be an intensely caring friend. According to her family, Garcia found great comfort in Psalm 62:5-8; “… my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” She was survived by her loving husband Joshua D. Garcia of Leadville; father Jon Mallette of Rosalie, Nebr.; mother Barbara Carson Mallette of Leadville; uncle Charles Carson of Grand Junction; and cousin Nicole Clotworthy of Denver. She was preceded in death by her brother Howard, grandparents Earl and Anna Belle Carson and Ray and Gladys Mallette, and her aunt Mary Clotworthy. Funeral services were held on April 28 at the Community Church of Leadville with Pastor Carey Green officiating. Burial was at Elks Rest Cemetery with a reception following at Leadville Elks Lodge #236. Contributions may be made to the Denver Hospice, 501 South Cherry St., Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246.
