Jerry Leo Shannahan, 86, of Buena Vista, died at his home May 22, surrounded by family.
Shannahan was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Leadville to John Bernard and Florence Dodge Shannahan. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Coxwain (CB) in World War II. Shannahan married Pauline Rush of El Reno, Okla., July 12, 1958. The couple made their home in Buena Vista. He worked at the Climax Molybdenum Mine from 1953 until the time he retired in 1979. He then became owner and operator of Hi Country Heating in Buena Vista from 1980 to 1995.
Shannahan loved hunting, fishing, hiking in the mountains, family gatherings and working in his yard.
He was survived by his wife, Pauline Shannahan of Buena Vista; daughters: Georgia (Bob) Little of Fruita, Janet (Rodney) Ommen of Buena Vista, Sheryl Svoboda of Morrison, Peggy (Rodney) Frank of Buena Vista and Pamela Sturgon of Loveland; sons Michael Shannahan of Smoot, Wyo., and Jerry Dan (Priscilla) Shannahan of Buena Vista; sister Julia McDermott of Denver; brother Jess Shannahan of New Mexico; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Nellie Evans Helms and Alta Evans Good, and brothers Steven Remine and Warren Remine.
Services were held Saturday, May 26, at Runyan Mortuary, with graveside services following at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Angel of Shavano Hospice, 8044 W. Highway 50, Ste. 202, Salida, CO 81201. Online condolences may be given at RunyanMortuary.com.
