I am not related to this family….just FYI Greeley Tribune (Greeley, Weld County) Nov 22, 1900 OBITUARY Death of Mrs. C. A. Gale Mrs. Charles A. Gales who has been an invalid for the past year or two, died at her home on Sixth street, Monday morning, at ten o’clock. Jennett Dwight Bemis was born at Lyndon, Vt., Aug 27, 1832, the eldest of a family of seven children. While a young girl, her parent moved to Massachusetts, and she married Charles Augustus Gale, at South Royalston, July 14, 1850. It was double wedding, the bride being Mr. Gale’s sister. Although possessed of indomitable energy and a quiet, domestic disposition, yet Mrs. Gale has experienced some phases of life which not fall to the lot most women. Accompanying her husband to California during the mining excitement of the early ‘50s, she has known the trials and dangers of a frontier mining camp. They went by steamer, crossing the isthmus of Panama before the railroad was completed, ladies being obliged to ride on donkey back in a man’s saddle over a portion of the distance. Returning to New England, eighteen years were spent in Keene, N. H., and the family came to Greeley in 1882, where they have since resided. She leaves three daughters living in this city, Mrs. George S. Adams, Mrs. T. C. Williams and Mrs. W. H. Edwards. Two sisters and a brother survive her. Mrs. Albert C. Wilson of Greeley, Mrs. D. C. Mowry of Providence, R. I., and H. O. Bemis of North Brookfield, Mass. The funeral was held from her late residence Wednesday, at 2 o’clock, Rev. T. C Hunt of the Park Congregational church officiating and the burial was in Linn Grove cemetery.
