Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado) Friday July 29, 1898 Page 3 DIED KITELEY--At the residence of his son, W. J. Kiteley, of old age, Saturday, July 23, 1898, John Kiteley, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 18 days. Another old settler has been called home. Mr. Kiteley has been failing for years, the last year or two having been almost helpless. At one time a very active man in Longmont, having served on the town board and taken great interest in business matters. He has also taken an active and leading part in church work. Like all men whose faculties are reasonably well balanced, he believed in cultivating his spiritual nature. He will not be missed as much as he would have been ten years ago, when even his advice in business matters considered of value, for he has gradually dropped out of active life. John Kitely was born in Leighton, Bedfordshire, England, Aug 5, 1820. Came to America with his parents in 1831, and settled in the state of New York. When he was old enough to look out for himself he went to Michigan and worked in the forest of that stae until 1846, when he went to Walworth, county, Wis. Was married to Catherine Flansburg Dec 22, 1847, and together they cleared up a farm and built a home, where they lived until 1873, when they moved to Longmont. Mr. Kiteley leaves two children, W. J. Kiteley and Mrs. William Dickens, and sixteen grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, and the burial took place at the Longmont cemetery.
