Alamosa, Colo. resident Jose E. Alire, 81, died Nov. 19, 2007 at his home in Alamosa under hospice care. He was born Dec. 18, 1925 in El Rito, N.M. to Erineo and Siera Sisneros Alire. He married Alice Sanchez on Jan. 14, 1961 in Center, Colo.
Jose served in the United States Navy as a seaman first class during World War II. He was an active member and Deacon of the Center Assembly of God Church for more than 25 years. He also enjoyed singing at church. He worked for over 20 years as a delivery man for the Pueblo Chieftain, and liked meeting people. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Alamosa; children Arnold (Pat) Alire of Denver, Colo., Joe (Lupe) Alire of Pueblo, Colo., Donna (Ruben) Garcia of Alamosa, Lorraine Alire of Vallecitos, N.M., Darlene (Tony) Ocana of Alamosa, Ronald (Anita) Alire of Denver, Donald (Margaret) Alire of Vallecitos, N.M., and Alice (Gilbert) Molina of Center; by a daughter-in-law; his sister Maria Lopez of El Rito, N.M.; his brother Rudy (Lorie) Sisneros of Tesuque, N.M., 33 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Abe Alire, daughter Cynthia Alire, brother Eloy Alire, and grandson Zack Ocana.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Fri., Nov. 23, 2007 at the Center Assembly of God Church followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m. also at the church in Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., Nov. 24 at the Center Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow services in the Assembly of God Cemetery in La Garita.
