SUICIDE WITH RAZOR AND ROPE
Saturday night at six o’clock John Becker was found hanging by a rope from the limb of a tree, the rope being around his neck, which had already been cut with a razor. Becker was working on the Chas. Miller division of the Miller & Johnson farm, ten miles southeast of Longmont. He had the mumps, and the doctor thinks it affected his brain and gave him melancholia. His throat was cut deep each side, but in front not so much, so the jugular vein was not severed. As no one saw the deed, it can only be supposed that he had strength enough left to climb the tree and adjust the rope, after he had used the razor, to make a sure job of it.
John Becker was 34 years of age, born in Germany, and lived in a shack with a wife and about half a dozen children, working for Chas. Miller.
Sheriff Florence and Coroner Macey were sent for from Greeley. They came over but the case of suicide was so plain that no inquest was held, and the body was turned over to F. R. Shaw & Co. The burial took place Monday afternoon.
