THE DEATH OF FATHER BYRNE
The Rev. Frances Byrne, late of Littleton, has gone to his final reward. It is to the old settlers of this vicinity that we wish to speak in reference to this good man. He was 97 years old May 4, 1904. His biography has been published in the Denver papers, so we write of him as we knew him. He has been in Colorado since 1867, and though a clergyman of the Episcopal church he ministered and preached to all classes and n all kinds of houses of worship. He was loved by all classes for his exceptional simplicity of character and unfailing faith in God. The words of the Master, “Except ye become as little children ye cannot enter the Kingdom of God.” can be applied better to him than to any man or woman we have ever known. He appeared to see no evil in any one. The people around him were “dear good brother and dear good sisters.” and while even the clergy, with whom he was associated would smile at his innocence, they loved and venerated him for his sincerity and earnestness.
Many who lived in the valley of the St. Vrain before Longmont was thought of, heard him preach, and a few are now living in this vicinity who were married by him. May his mantle fall on some one just as worthy.
