SHULL--In Longmont, Colo., Sunday, April 23, 1911, Martin L. Shull, aged 68 years ? (can’t read) and 22 days/
Mr. Shull has been failing for years, having spent some time at the Soldiers Home at Santa Monica, and also in the Soldiers Sanitarium in South Dakota. He had been in Longmont for several weeks previous to his death.
Probably no man in the large membership of McPherson Post has done more in its organization and continuation for years afterwards, till his health failed him, than Comrade Shull. He was a character member, and if he had lived till May 16, 1913, he would have been a member for thirty years.
M. L. Shull was born in Ohio, November 1, 1842. He enlisted as a private in the war of the Rebellion, September 19, 1862, Co. K. 81st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Was discharged therefrom February 22, 1865, by a surgeon’s certificate of disability. He was a man of strong will and force of character.
Mr. Shull was married in 1867 to Miss Mandy Staley, in Ohio, and came to Longmont in 1875. Four children were born to them, two of whom have passed away. Mrs. Blanche Davis, of Denver, and Guy R. Shull, of Strong, Colo., are living and with their mother, were present at the funeral services. J. C. Shull of Berthoud, a brother of the deceased with his family were also present.
The services were held at the Congregational church, of which Mr. Shull was a member, conducted by Rev. Geo. E. Ladd, after which the remains were escorted to their last resting place at the Mountain View cemetery, by a large number of comrades of McPherson Post.
