Maria Micklich
Longtime resident Maria Micklich, 77, of Salida, passed away Feb. 13,[2011] at St. Anthony's Central in Denver after her battle with cancer.
Micklich was born in Salida on Nov. 3, 1933, to Wanda (Linquist) and Joe Gonzales.
She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, crocheting, knitting and making wonderful jelly and jams for her family and friends. She also enjoyed volunteering in her community. Her favorite activity, from the time her grandchildren could swing a bat or bounce a ball, was when she was spending time with them attending various sports activities, which included traveling as far as Ohio and Canada.
She was said to be a kind, caring and compassionate woman, a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her children Eddie (Kathy) Micklich, Leadville, Sid (Peggy) Micklich, Alamosa, Judy (Hank) Matthies, Laurel, Mont.; her grandchildren Amanda, Cassandra, Matthew, Scott (Nicole), David, Brittney, Stephanie, Sherri (Josh), Amy (Johnny); ten great-grandchildren, and her loving brother George Gonzales.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Micklich Sr., and her parents Wanda and Joe Gonzales.
A memorial Mass will be held in her honor at St. Joseph Church in Salida on Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m.
