Roy Leon Thompson, 72 of Salida, died Jan. 11, 2007, at Rose Medical Center in Denver.
Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Alamosa to Achesa and Lulu Maude (Hunt) Thompson.
He spent his childhood in Villa Grove and Poncha Springs, attending McCray Elementary School in Salida, Kesner Junior High and graduating from Salida High School in 1952.
Most of his four-year military service was spent on police duty at Sandia Air Force Base near Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Thompson married Charlene Crisler April 2, 1960, in Salida. They lived in Leadville where he took college courses while working at Climax then returned to Salida.
He worked for Greenberg Furniture in Salida, mining in Grants, N.M. and Climax mine until his 1985 retirement and summers for the U.S. Forest Service in Salida after his retirement.
Mr. Thompson belonged to Salida Elks Lodge No. 808. His greatest pleasure in life was his wife, boys and girls. He had many friends. His hobby was wood working and fixing anything.
He enjoyed travels to Mexico and Arizona, but his greatest joys were fishing and hunting in the valley.
Survivors are his wife, Charlene Thompson of Salida; sons, Alan (Chris) Crisler (Tami) Thompson of Salida and Thomas Dean (Rebecca) Thompson of Salida; daughters, Roni (David) Martin of Penrose, Susie (Frank) Orzechowski of Salida, Frankie (Chris) Urban of Denver and Paula Armenta of Cañon City; sisters, Opal Heister of Salida and Ruth Lankford of Cañon City; grandchildren, Ryan Thompson, Rohn Thompson, Kathryn Thompson, Hayley Thompson, Tyler Martin, Shelby Martin, Keira Martin, Vicki Luna, Sandy Koch and Krissy Robinson, Tracy (Ted) Senter, Bobby Orzechowski, Jessica (Shawn) Whisenhunt, Alisha (Mike Schade) Garrison, Korie (Bill) Ellis and Amanda (Neil) Haight; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Eric, Leo, John, Ben, Max, Tayler, Kayla, Ashley, Maryah and Trey; brothers-in-law, Dean (Bernice) Crisler of Denver and Ernie (Janet) Rhodus of Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Linda (Bill) Sass of Monument.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Rohn Leo Thompson, sister Audrey Wickers Everett and brother-in-law Eddie Rhodus.
Memorial services are set for noon Jan. 18, 2007, at Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
In lieu of flowers friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
