McFARLAND--At her home in Denver, Sunday, November 27, 1921, Mrs. Katherine Margaret McFarland, aged 89 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Mrs. McFarland was the widow of the late O.A. McFarland, and for eighteen or nineteen years they were associated with the early life of Longmont. They came to Colorado in 1872, to the little place called Green City and in 1874 came to Longmont. Mr. McFarland bought one of the dry good stores and in 1880 (or 1889) , he with his brother-in-law built the block corner of Main street and Fourth avenue, now occupied by the Longmont Drug Co., which was long known as the McFarland-Hubbell block, and for years they kept a dry goods and shoe store. Mr. Hubbell moved to Fort Collins and died there, while Mr. McFarland continued the business until 1899, when failing health compelled him to sell, and Brash & Keeler took the business, Mr. and Mrs. McFarland moving to Denver, where he passed away April 22, 1900. Mr. and Mrs. McFarland were devoted Methodists and the Longmont church owes much of their efforts and self-sacrifice in getting in on a substantial basis. She was a charter member of the two missionary societies. The house at 327 Terry street which they built was for many years their home and here they reared their family. Three sons have gone before them and there are now left Mrs. N. B. McCreary, and Mrs. Katherine M. Howe of Palo Alto, California; One son, Finley L. McFarland, President of the Denver Automobile Association. The remains were brought to Longmont, Tuesday, and the funeral services held in the Methodist church, her pastor of the early eighties, Dean Peck of Denver, Officiating, and made the service one of hope and victory. A large number of automobiles bring relatives and friend came up from Denver.
