JOHNSON,
George W.
LONGMONT LEDGER
Longmont, Boulder County, Tuesday 24, 1929
Editor Johnson Is Laid to Rest
George W. Johnson, editor of the Longmont Daily Call, did not awaken from the unconscious condition in which his last days were spent, but closed his eyes in a last, long sleep at 10:30 Friday night, September 20.
Mr. Johnson was born at Columbus, Indiana, on June 26, 1858 (hard to read, this might be 1868) and became an orphan early in his life. He gave up farming for work in an Indiana printing office, liked the work, stuck to it and made a marked success of his efforts. Thirty-one years ago he took over the newly started Longmont Call and made it his life success.
In republican part politics he became a leader in this part of the state and finally succeeded in being elected to the state legislature, where he served most creditably.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are his widow, Mrs. Florence Johnson, and his two loyal son, Loren H. and Jean W., and one brother Jesse Johnson of Denver. The two sons have grown up in the office of the Call and have long since assumed audious duties involved in the publication of a newspaper. The will continue the business build on the labor, determination and devotion of their capable father.
The funeral was conducted from the Shaw Mortuary Monday at 2:30 and was largely attended by a concourse of citizens from all parts of the county, who held the veteran editor in highest esteem. The service was conducted by Rev. Frank R. Hollenbeck, the pastor of the Longmont Methodist Church, who delivered a most fitting eulogy on the life and work the departed husband and loyal citizen.
