Frances Mabel Longenbaugh Funeral services for Frances Mabel Moon Longenbaugh will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the Cortez First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lynn Evans officiating. Interment will follow at the Arriola Cemetery. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at the Methodist Church. Frances Mabel Moon Longenbaugh was born Nov. 14, 1906 in Golden, Colo. She was the fourth of six children born to Frances and Delauzon Moon. She passed away in the Denver area on Saturday, March 30, 2002. After graduating from Colorado A&M College in Fort Collins, Colo., Frances married Harry Longenbaugh, and moved to Hesperus. Both Frances and her husband taught at Fort Lewis College there during the 1930s. The celebrated nearly 65 years of marriage. They raised two children, Robert and Harriet. During the World War II years they worked on a ranch north of Steamboat Springs, Colo. and later at LaSalle, Utah. In 1945, Frances and Harry began to build their home-located northwest of Cortez on farmland they purchased in 1930. Frances was active in the community and belonged to the Ute Mountain Study Club and the Colorado Federation of Women. She was Montezuma County Easter Seal chairperson for over 35 years and was a Cub Scout and 4-H leader, as well as "Pinto Bean Queen" numerous times. Survivors include a son Robert (Lale) Longenbaugh, of Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Harriet (Ernest) Cox of Port Matilda, Pa.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Frances' sister, Iva Moon Pearce, resides near Boulder, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry, in 1992. Memorial donations be made to the Historical Collection of the Cortez Public Library, or a charity of your choice. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
