Horrible Death of Joseph Arnold
Sunday evening Joseph Arnold met a horrible death, so far as what could be surmised from the surroundings. He purchased a ticket at Master for Hardin, over the short line, but the train did not stop at the latter place. He owned and resided on a farm between Kersey and Hardin and fearing that the train would not stop at the former place, it is supposed that he endeavored to get off before reaching that station and fell under the wheels of the coach to his rear. When the body was picked up in a horribly mangled condition. The head was hanging to the neck by a shred of skin.
Coroner Macy was summoned and examine the place where the accident happened and he thinks that Arnold must have been standing on the car steps, watching his chance to get off, when he slipped and was dragged under the moving train, as the sand for a distance at one side of the track was plowed as if by dragging feet. He did not think an inquest necessary and the remains were taken to his undertaking rooms in this city and prepared for burial. Tuesday morning they were taken to the house on the farm and from there taken to Linn Grove cemetery for burial, Father LaJeunesse of Fort Collins district officiating.
Deceased leaves a wife.
