Greeley Tribune (Greeley, Weld County) Date: Oct 9, 1902 Page 3 John Heukaufer. John Heukaufer, postmaster and telephone agent at Pine Wood, Estes Park, died at his home Sunday night after four weeks struggle with typhoid fever. Mr. Heukaufer was a resident of Fort Collins for years, where he was highly esteemed by all, old and young, for his intelligence and kindness. He was interested in all natural sciences, but his hobby was in the collecting of relics and specimens. With the former he was an archeologist of intelligence, having a good knowledge of the history of the races that inhabited the country so far as known and being fairly well versed in geology he was a most interesting talker of the past ages, as told by the earth and rock formations. His collection of ancient and modern arrow heads and other things pertaining to the aborigines, is exceptionally fine and valuable and each article was classified in a scientific and scholarly manner. The funeral was held from Pine Wood Tuesday attended by a number of friends, who mourn the loss of a good and valued neighbor.
