PHILLIPS, William S.

WILLIAM S. PHILLIPS Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, 21 Dec 1915 MEETING his Maker with the same quiet fortitude which marked his daily life, William S. Phillips passed away this morning at 6:15 at his home on west Main street after a ten day’s illness of la grippe, followed by Bright’s disease. Unconscious for over twenty hours before the vital spark was extinguished Mr. Phillips suffered little from the malady which took him from his earthly pursuits to that Reward which awaited his coming. It was to Wendell P. Ela, his longtime friend that he spoke his last words. Mr. Ela had himself recovered only a few days before from an illness of la grippe and was paying a visit to Mr. Phillips’ bedside. Weak and almost unable to speak, Mr. Phillips insisted on thrusting out his hand to grasp that of his old friend and murmured an inquiry as to his health. So far as is known he did not speak again although he lived for probably thirty hours afterward.
