KILLED BY AN EXPLOSION
Lorenzo Icovelloe, a miner from the sunny land of Italy was killed yesterday afternoon at the Little Book Cliff mines by being hit by a large rock from a blast that had been made.
A new road bed for a tram to a new opening was being blasted out. A blast had been set with dynamite and the deceased who was working at a distance of over five hundred feet from the place where the blast had been set was warned to get farther away, at the time the blast was about to be made. This was four o’clock in the afternoon. He did not heed the warning and a heavy piece of rock was hurled in his direction, which struck him on the back of the neck killing him. Icovelloe was quite an old man and had been in this country about twelve years.
Coroner Smith was notified and in company with H.C. Bucklin went to the mine this morning and brought the body to this city at noon today. Dr. Smith after hearing the conditions under which the accident occurred decided that it was unnecessary to hold an inquest. His fellow Italian workmen had no blame for anyone for the accident. The man had been warned. The Italians came to this city in a body today and attended the funeral.
