Mrs. Mary Scherer, wife of Matthew Scherer, of 814 W. 14th Ave., and mother of Frank Scherer, a member of this society, died Sunday morning, May 31, as the result of a paralytic stroke. Mrs. Scherer was born in Germany, coming to Denver with her husband in 1869. She was 75 years old at the time of her death, and one of the best known ladies in West Denver. She leaves, besides her husband, a family of 7 children. Five daughters: Mrs. Henry Smith, Mrs. Mary Nahring, Mrs. Lizzie Pheffer, Mrs. Bertie White, Mrs. Annie Thompson. Two sons: Frank Scherer of the firm of Scherer & Spetnagel, 1443 Evans Street, and Henry Scherer who has been a member of the city fire department for the past 10 years. A brother: Frank Aichelman, a pioneer resident of the Brighton district, and 16 grandchildren. The funeral was held from St. Elizabeth's Church Tuesday morning June 2, with a requiem high mass, largely attended by sorrowing friends. She was a woman of sterling qualities and noted for the true Christian life she led.
