KELLY, Asa [Eddie]


Asa (Eddie) Kelly, Chaffee County native and long time Salida resident, died Dec. 16, 2006, in Peoria, Ariz. He was born to Asa and Mary E. Mac Lead Kelly at Browns Canyon Feb. 28, 1938. Mr. Kelly attended Sand Park and Browns Canyon schools. He graduated from Salida High School in 1958. He was in the U.S. Army Reserve until the unit closed down in Salida. He was a hard working happy go lucky man. He and his brother, Roy, ran the Poncha Truck Stop for three years. He worked for Bob Myers, George Koenig and Tom Koenig. Mr. Kelly was employed by several mail contractors driving a mail truck where he met Marles and married her in 1975. He also was a job coach and van driver for Developmental Opportunities. He and Marles moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 2003, and then lived in Peoria, Ariz. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, Marles Kelly; brother, Roy Kelly and Charlene Beagle; one niece, Betta ReAnn Locke; four nephews, Roy (Chip), Richard, Randy and Roger Kelly; five step-children, Dailesa Devol, Mark, David, Marty and Marlin Broaddus; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Russell Kelly. Celebration service of Mr. Kelly's life will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 21, 2006, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
