GLUECKERT, Maura Eileen

Maura Eileen Glueckert, 57, died of non-smoking young women's lung cancer Nov. 27, 2006, less than six months after being diagnosed. She recently retired to Buena Vista from Colorado Springs. Mrs. Glueckert was a member of the steering committee for the new Boys and Girls Club in Salida, joined the local Rocky Mountain Racquet Club and gave her coaching expertise to other players, joined a book club, went to Curves, became a hospice volunteer and was a Democratic precinct chairwoman. People felt as if they knew her for years, and wished they had. She loved life and her family. She loved kids and teaching. She was named Outstanding Teacher of Air Academy District 20. She enjoyed playing and (successfully) coaching tennis. She loved being with her friends - even the Republican ones. A memorial mass was held in Colorado Springs.
