Jasper "Jupe" Joseph
Jasper "Jupe" Joseph Cortese died Oct. 21, 2006. He was born on Jan. 10, 1920, in Pueblo, to Joe and Grace (Maurello) Cortese.
He married the former Helen Distel on April 14, 1951, in Montrose. In May 1951 they moved to Salida and made it their permanent home. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He worked for Pickering Gas Company, then operated Jasper's Standard Service Station from 1953-1967.
He was Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder from 1967 until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, traveling, and his family and friends.
Mr. Cortese is survived by his daughters, Theresa, Salida and Mary (John) Strand, Colorado Springs; sons, Michael (Monique), Boynton Beach, Fla. and Kenneth (Jennifer Day), Eldersburg, Md.; six grandchildren, Stefanie and Genevieve Strand, Nicholas, Alexander, Kristen and Tim Cortese; sister, Rose Passanante; brothers, Tony and Sam Cortese; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. The mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with rosary at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send memorials contributions to St. Joseph's Catholic Church through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
