Charles Wicklund, 81, formerly of Pueblo, passed away on Aug. 20, in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
He was born in Leadville to Ed and Elizabeth (Damjanovich) Wicklund on Jan. 21, 1925. He attended Leadville High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 30th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. After the war, he worked at the Resurrection Mine and the Yak. Bick, as he was known, enjoyed cars, polka dancing and wood carving. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. His desire in life was to make people happy and leave them with a smile on their face.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Elizabeth Wicklund and his wife Stella Cain-Wicklund. He is survived by his sister, Virginia (David) Brady, Ventura, Calif.; daughters, Jan (Tom Trout) McFarland, Peoria, Ariz.; Bonnie (Jim) Smith, Boerne, Texas; and Lori (Jeff) Bentley, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; stepchildren, Connie (John) Wilbar, Pueblo; Jim (Eileen) Cain, Canon City; Doug (Theresa) Cain, Lakewood; Carol (Stan) Lettrich, Illinois; and Chris (Lynn) Cain, Lakewood; nieces, Joy (Charles) Jasko, San Francisco, Calif.; Cathy (David) Krushell, Ventura, Calif.; Nancy (Randy) Garate, Chico, Calif.; Barbara (Bryan) Summers, Red Bluff, Calif.; nephew, Laurence (Donna) Brady, Leadville. He is also survived by six grandchildren and several cousins in Leadville.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Pueblo for more than 20 years. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 24, officiated by Father Ben Bacino, with horn and vocal music provided by Laurence Brady, accompanied by Peggy Wallace.
The Romero Family Funeral Home, Pueblo, handled the arrangements, with interment at Imperial Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.
Donations may be made to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice in Pueblo or Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Ariz.
