PARLIN, Goldie Berniece

Goldie Berniece Parlin died Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Vincent General Hospital in Leadville. Parlin was 99 years old. She was born in Middlebury, Ind. on Dec. 11, 1906. Her parents were the late Cornelius and Pearl (Weaver) Schrock. Berniece, as she was known, went to school in Indiana and, following a trip to Colorado with a close friend, decided to stay in Leadville. There she met her future husband and on April 2, 1947, married Fred Parlin. The couple settled into their house on East 9th Street, which they still call their home. Parlin loved playing bingo and crocheting. She was a good cook and also enjoyed gardening. Anyone who has been to the Parlin home will know of her beautiful doll collection dating back to when she was a child herself. Parlin loved to travel as well and was able to take some wonderful trips before her health prevented further travel. For the last two years, Parlin was a resident in the St. Vincent Extended Care Unit. Parlin is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Erma and Pauline, and her daughter-in-law Donna Jean Parlin who died in 1992. She is survived by her husband in Leadville, her son Les Parlin, also in Leadville, and one granddaughter, Lindsey Parlin, in Denver. Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Russell Baker officiated. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Leadville. Following the committal service, the family received friends at a reception at the Leadville Elks Lodge. Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home. Herald Democrat
