Lydia Jean Collins McNamara, 89, passed away after a short illness on Aug. 21, 2006, in Ulysses, Kan. with family by her side.
Jean was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Lansing, Mich., to Percy A. and E. Rebecca (Hoffman) Collins. She married her college sweetheart, Dr. B. Edward McNamara on Aug. 18, 1941, in East Lansing, Mich.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Jean was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and later of the Junior League of Lansing.
In 1962, the family moved to Fairplay, Colo., where Jean was an active member of the hospital auxiliary. She taught English, French and reading at South Park High School for 15 years. She continued to live in Fairplay after her husband, Dr. Mac, passed away in 1973.
In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jill Collins Campbell and two nephews, Greg and David Campbell.
She is survived by her children: A. Jeanie McNamera of Wiesbaden, Germany; Michael (Anne) McNamara of Red Lodge, Mont.; Rebecca (Ted) Cameron of Ulysses, Kan.; Patrick (Brenda) McNamara of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Katherine (Doug) Lubbers of Lamar, Colo.; as well as 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
