Doris Fern Hamilton, 83, of Crook, Colo., passed from this life into the glories of heaven Aug. 16, 2006, in Sterling, Colo.
Doris was born April 8, 1923, to Roy and Fern Loudon. She attended high school in Thedford, graduating valedictorian of her class in 1941. She furthered her education at the Kearney teacher's school, where while entertaining at a USO show, she met her future husband, Donald LeRoy Hamilton. Doris taught at various country schools until Don returned from war, and they were married June 9, 1946. They made their home in Como, Colo., where they raised cattle, horses and sheep and ran a custom haying business.
The lord blessed them with six children: Walter Roy, Donald Dee, Twila Fern, Douglas Allen, Rose Ann and Mary Elizabeth.
Doris and Don started a Sunday School in Jefferson in 1949. Doris was active in the church, 4-H leader, Pioneers Girls leader, teacher, bus driver, Cowbelles and the Silver Sewing Circle. She worked for many years in the Park County Treasurer's office.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Fern Loudon; two brothers, Davis and Jack Loudon; her husband, Don; and a granddaughter, Kristy Hamilton.
She is survived by a sister, Joellen Phillips of Mullen, Neb.; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Loudon of Lincoln, Neb.; six children, Walter (Sue) Hamilton of Palmyra, Neb.; Donald (Vicki) Hamilton of Rifle, Colo.; Twila (Jim) Brompton of Crook; Douglas (Leanne) Hamilton of Breckenridge, Colo.; Rose (Mark) Fisher of Clermont, Fla.; Mary (Bob) Cunningham of Pasadena, Calif; 13 grandchildren: Don, Philip and Steven Hamilton of Palmyra; Megan and Amy Hamilton of Rifle; Holly, Heidi, Heather and Hazel Brompton of Crook; Kelsey (Ryan) Roberts and Sarah Hamilton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Luke Fisher of Clermont; and Issac Cunningham of Pasadena; and numerous nieces and nephews,
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 2 p.m., Sept. 16, at the Jefferson Community Hall in Jefferson, Colo.
