Earl Milton
Earl Milton Cryer, 84, died Sept. 5, 2006, in Salida, after a short illness.
He was born March 15, 1922, in Hornbeck, La.
Mr. Cryer retired from the United States Postal Service after spending 26 years as postmaster at Hamshire, Texas, and four years as postal facility analyst at Beaumont Sectional Center, Beaumont, Texas.
The Eagle Scout, 1939 Beaumont South Park High School graduate, U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, former scoutmaster, former Hamshire Lions Club member and Hamshire school board member, spent his retirement pursuing his lifelong hobbies and interests in favorite areas of the country.
One of his favorite pastimes was fishing and he was a "fisherman extraordinaire." A Texas State Park host and U.S. Forest Service volunteer, he made many friends throughout Texas and Colorado.
He was a devoted husband to Lyn Strawn Cryer and father to children, step-children, foster children, and Papaw to numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cryer died as he lived, with dignity, courage, and humility. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a good man. He never regretted anything he did, only things he never got to do.
The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 30, 2006, at First Christian Church in Salida.
