Larry J. Helbert, 63 of Nathrop, died peacefully at his home Dec. 9, 2006, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born in Denton, Texas, grew up in Midland, Texas and attended Midland High School. He received a Purple Heart May 5, 1966, for his service as a marine during the Vietnam War. He and his wife moved to Nathrop in 1986. His greatest joy was his daughter, Tesha. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, a successful Denver Broncos football game and exotic foods with his exotic friends. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of 23 years; daughter, Tesha; brother, Ed; sister, Billie; nieces, Heather, Summer, Crissy and Kathy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jo and Harold Helbert. A private service for family members and close friends will be held at a later date.
